J.K. Rowling Considered Killing Off Ron
I just read that J.K. Rowling was thinking about killing off Ron halfway through the series, but eventually decided against it.

It was no coincidence that Harry became friends with both Ron and Hermione on Halloween in 1991 (yes, I know that he and Ron met and became friends on the Hogwarts Express, but it was on this night that all three of them became friends with each other). Although Harry pays the date little mind, Halloween night on 1991 marked the 10th anniversary of his parents’ deaths.
Harry’s friendship with Ron and Hermione was meant to replace the unconditional love and support that he would never be able to receive from his parents. They are loyal, fiercely protective of Harry, and stick with him no matter what.
